It tells about our past lives more than it predicts our future. Because our future is based not only on our past life deeds but also on our present karmas so in a way we can change our Kundli . But then again our greh or the planets and past life deeds will indirectly force us to behave in a certain way; it will create certain scenarios in which we are forced to act according to them. The only thing that we have sole control over is our will. Of course, God is the creator of everything, not even a single leaf can move...
There are 9 Planets, 12 Zodiac signs, 27 Nakshatras*, and 12 houses in astrology.
As per Vedic Astrology, there are 7 planets and 2 shadow planets. Because astrology is considered from the point of view of Earth so Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn are considered planets. Apart from these, Rahu (North Node) and Ketu (South Node) are termed as shadow planets because they are not actually visible from Earth.
These planets rule different zodiac signs/ rashis. The 12 zodiac signs and their respective lords are-
Zodiac sign - Rashi Lord
- Aries (Mesh) - Mars (Mangal)
- Taurus (Vrishabh) - Venus (Shukra)
- Gemini (Mithun) - Mercury (Budh)
- Cancer (Kark) - Moon (Chandrama)
- Leo (Singh) - Sun (Surya)
- Virgo (Kanya) - Mercury (Budh)
- Libra (Tula) - Venus (Shukra)
- Scorpio (Vrischik) - Mars (Mangal)
- Sagittarius (Dhanu) - Jupiter (Guru/ Brihaspati)
- Capricorn (Makar) - Saturn (Shani)
- Aquarius (Kumbh) - Saturn(Shani)
- Pisces (Meen) - Jupiter (Guru/ Brihaspati)
These 12 Zodiac signs / Rashis are further subdivided into Nakshatras.
Ancient astrologers divided the sky into 27 sectors by drawing a circle with its center on Earth, having 360 degrees in total. So each sector has 13 degrees and 20 minutes
The constellation falling in a particular sector thus represented that Nakshatra. The 27 Nakshatras* are-
- Ashwini
- Bharani
- Kritika
- Rohini
- Mrigshira
- Ardra
- Punarvasu
- Pushya
- Ashlesha
- Magha
- Purva Falguni
- Uttara Falguni
- Hasta
- Chitra
- Swati
- Vishakha
- Anuradha
- Jyeshtha
- Moola
- Purvashadha
- Uttarashada *
- Shravan
- Dhanishtha
- Shatbhisha
- Purva Bhadrapada
- Uttara Bhadrapada
- Revati
Each Nakshatra is subdivided into different padas.
We often see that two people with the same zodiac sign behave differently. This difference occurs because of the differences in nakshatra. So, Vedic astrology is much more detailed and complex than western astrology.
*Note-
Abhijit Nakshatra starts from the last pada of Uttarashada Nakshatra and it extends up to 1/15th part of Shravan Nakshatra. It lies between 276 degrees 40 minutes to 280 degrees 53 minutes 20 seconds, making a total of 28 Nakshatras. The only time Abhijet Nakshatra is used is during Muhurta Calculation and prediction.
