It tells about our past lives more than it predicts our future. Because our future is based not only on our past life deeds but also on our present karmas so in a way we can change our Kundli . But then again our greh or the planets and past life deeds will indirectly force us to behave in a certain way; it will create certain scenarios in which we are forced to act according to them. Rajyog in Kundli- Vedic Astrology Birth Chart

Understanding the concept of Rajyog

We often associate the term Rajyoga with its literal meaning i.e. Astrological combination which would make us Kings or Queens and we would become very famous, have huge wealth, and enormous property. That is not the case. In reality, that is far from the actual truth. The Astrological Combinations or Yogas in Vedic Astrology were defined thousands of years ago. These rules were put forward at a time when opportunities were scarce, not everyone could afford proper living facilities. The people with Rajyogas in their Kundlis were rare and used to reach pinnacles of success in their respective fields. In the modern world, there are tremendous opportunities and so many options to choose from. Living a decent life is not rare anymore. So the term Rajyog can be misleading. If you have Rajyog in your Vedic Birth Chart then it indicates that you'll have a comfortable life and many opportunities in life to earn money and have a fulfilling life. There is no doubt that you'll reach the maximum heights of success possible in your respective field.  In Jyotish Shastra, there are many different types of Rajyog, and depending on their type, their effects are also varied. The presence of more than one Rajyog in the Kundli is considered extremely lucky and will make the native receive a prominent status in society.

Types of Rajyog in Jyotish Shastra (Hindu Astrology)

  1. Panch Mahapurush Rajyog
  2. Gaj Kesari Rajyog
  3. Vipreet Rajyog or Neech Bhang Rajyog
  4. Kendra Trikon Rajyog

Panch Mahapurush Rajyog

Just like the name suggests, this rajyog will give a colossal personality to the native and such a person will be known among the masses for their virtues and good qualities. This powerful Rajyog occurs whenever any of the 5 planets (Jupiter, Mars, Mercury, Saturn and Venus) are exalted in the Kendra houses (1,4,7,10) or Trikon houses (5,9). To understand the strength of this Rajyog, you need to understand the Planetary Placements and their results. Depending on the planet involved, it can be of 5 types-

  1. Hansa (or Hamsa) Panch Mahapurush Rajyog- It is one of the most important and powerful Panch Mahapurush Yog. Jupiter (Guru, Brihaspati) creates this yog when it is exalted in Kendra or Trikon houses. The native with this yog is very knowledgable and spiritual. Such a person is wise, warm-hearted, kind, generous, and overall very virtuous. Luck is always in favour of this person. Jupiter is the Guru, the acharya, the saint, of all other planets. Every other planet listens to his advice and follows his sayings, so, an exalted Jupiter can decrease all the negative effects of the Kundli due to any other planet Presence of this yoga will definitely enrich the life of the native and the person will possess the qualities of Jupiter. Hansa Mahapurush yog is formed whenever Jupiter is placed in the signs of Cancer (Kark), Sagittarius (Dhanu), or Pisces (Meen). As far as career opportunities are concerned, the natives of this rajyog can achieve almost anything in life and can be successful in any field that they choose. The strength of this yog will depend on the degree, sign, nakshatra, and influence of other planets. There should not be any malefic aspect of any other planet. The placement of Jupiter should be checked in the Navamsha chart (D9) and the Shastiamsha chart (D60) to actually know the real effects of this placement. Bhagwan Shree Ram has this yog in a very powerful position. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam also had Hansa Panch Mahapurush yog in his Vedic Birth Chart.
  2. Ruchak Panch Mahapurush Rajyog- Mars creates this powerful Rajyog. Whenever Mars (Mangal) is placed in the sign of Capricorn (Makar), Aries (Mesh), or Scorpio (Vrishchik) in the Kendra or Trikon houses, then Ruchak Panch Mahapurush Yog is created. A strong Mars gives tremendous energy to the person. Such a person is strong-willed and takes initiative in life to achieve his dreams and goals. This person will never be scared or afraid of anything and will march through his life like a commander and a soldier. There is constant radiant energy oozing out of their persona. There is no source of any physical ailment and the native enjoys good health and a strong body. Even after possessing so many qualities, such a person is quite friendly with others, makes lots of friends and acquaintances, and never looks down upon others. Whenever the Mahadasha or Anatradasha of the planet Mars starts, then the native rise to immense fame and acquires a powerful position in society. The best career path for such these natives can be in the Armed Forces, as an IPS Officer, an eminent sportsperson, or any other field that demands courage and strength. Cricket World Cup winner, Kapil Dev and India's Prime Minister, Narendra Modi have Ruchak Panch Mahapurush yog in their Vedic Birth Charts. To check the real strength of this Rajyoga in a Kundli, the important points to consider are- the sign, degree, and Nakshatra in which it's forming in the Vedic Chart. Apart from this the status of Planet Mars in the Navamsha chart (D9), as well as the Shashtiamsha chart (D60), should always be noted.
  3. Shash Panch Mahapurush Rajyog- Saturn (Shani) creates this strong Rajyog in the Vedic Birth Chart. This yog is formed whenever Saturn is placed in his own sign of Capricorn (Makar) or Aquarius (Kumbh) or exalted in the sign of Libra (Tula) in the Kendra (1,4,7,10) or the Trikon (1,5,9) houses. Apart from this, the degree of the planet Saturn and the Nakshatra in which it is placed should also be taken into consideration. There should not be influence of any malefic planet. Also, check the status of the planet in the Navamsha chart (D9) as well as the Shashtiamsha chart (D60). The planet Saturn has the ability to give the native immense fame and wealth. The gifts bestowed by Saturn have no bounds or ends. Saturn is a Karmic Planet, which means that it delivers the karmas done by us in our previous lives. Having a strong Saturn indicates that the person gathered positive Karmas. This is the reason why having a strong Saturn in the Birth Chart is considered a blessing. Saturn can give hardships during the initial stages of life because its the duty of Saturn to ensure that the person is worthy of the gifts that he's going to bestow. The person who passes the test and turns out to be victorious, and ultimately reaps the benefits of his own Karmas and is blessed with a prosperous life. The abundance that results due to Saturn can not be explained in words. Shree JRD Tata had this Rajyog in his Kundli. Needless to say Shash Panch Mahapurush yog is a very powerful Rajyog
  4. Bhadra Panch Mahapurush Rajyog- The planet Mercury (Budh) is the creator of this raj yoga in the natal chart. Whenever Mercury is placed in the sign of Virgo (Kanya), or Gemini (Mithun) in the Kendra (1,4,7,10) or Trikon (1,5,9) houses, then this Yog is created. The degree of the planet Mercury and the Nakshatra in which it is placed should also be taken into consideration. There should not be influence of any malefic planet. Also, check the status of the planet in the Navamsha chart (D9) as well as the Shashtiamsha chart (D60). Mercury gets affected by the negative influence of other planets very easily, and sometimes its placed in a Paap Kartari position. In such situations, it won't give its full positive effects like it's supposed to. When any such negative influences are absent in the Kundli, only then the actual effects of Bhadra Panch Mahapurush Yog can be observed. The planet Mercury is the significator of mind, intelligence, communications, art, and writing. The natives with a strong Mercury are creative individuals with sharp minds. Such a person has a razor-sharp wit and can even possess the ability to understand the minds of others. These people are gifted communicators and orators. People with this Rajyog can work well in the fields of Media, Communications, Law, Teaching, Mathematics, Public Speaking etc.
  5. Malavaya Panch Mahapurush Rajyog- The planet Venus (Shukra) is the creator of this raj yoga in the natal chart. Whenever Venus is placed in the sign of Pisces (Meen)Taurus (Vrish/ Vrishabh), or Libra (Tula) in the Kendra (1,4,7,10) or Trikon (1,5,9) houses, then this Yog is created. The degree of the planet Venus and the Nakshatra in which it is placed should also be taken into consideration. There should not be influence of any malefic planet. Also, check the status of the planet in the Navamsha chart (D9) as well as the Shashtiamsha chart (D60). Planet Venus or the Shukracharya bestows the person with knowledge and creativity. Such a person has many gifts and is quite artistic. The natives with a strong Venus are very rich and enjoy a comfortable and prosperous life. They like spending on luxurious products. They enjoy and appreciate beautiful things that are pleasing to the eye. They live for the aesthetics. Many famous Celebrities and Politicians have this raj yoga in their natal charts.

Gaj Kesari Raj Yog

The word Gaja-Kesari is composed of two words Gaja i.e. an Elephant and Kesari i.e. a Lion. The literal meaning of this Rajyog suggests that the person with this Rajyog in their Vedic Birth Charts will possess the powers of Elephant and Lion which are two mighty animals. So, as the name indicates, its a very powerful combination to have. According to ancient and modern beliefs, Elephants are the epitome of strength and knowledge. Lion is the King of the jungle, it's associated with royalty and bravery. A person with this beneficial rajyog will have the qualities of the Elephant and Lion. Such a person will always be victorious. Their enemies don't stand a chance in front of them. This powerful rajyog is formed when Jupiter (Guru/Brihaspati) and Moon (Chandra) are placed together in conjunction or mutually aspect each other in Kendra houses(1,4,7,10) or Trikon houses (1,5,9). The strength will of course depend on the degrees, Signs, and Nakshatra in which they are placed. And to know the actual quality of the planet, the Navamsha chart (D9) and the Shashtiamsha chart (D60) should always be taken into consideration. Moon and Jupiter are two of the most beneficial planets according to Vedic Astrology. The strength of Gaja Kesari yog depends on the strength of these planets.

Vipreet / Neech Bhang Raj Yog

As the name indicates, Vipreet Rajyog are opposite to the normal Rajyogs. Because it forms when the negative effects of a malefic planet are reversed and the planet starts giving positive effects. This is the most misunderstood raj yoga in Hindu Astrology. It can form in many ways. The lords of Dusthana houses (3,6,8,12) are generally considered malefic and are considered to give negative effects. Whenever the lords of these houses are placed in another Dusthana then the negative effects of that house are somewhat reduced. Sometimes, the planet which is debilitated in a sign is placed with another planet that is exalted in that sign. For example, Venus is debilitated in the zodiac sign of Virgo but Mercury is exalted in the same, when either of these two planets become the lords of Dusthana houses and are placed in those houses together, then a very powerful Vipreet Rajyog is formed in the natal chart. In such conditions, sudden ups and downs will give tremendous positive results. Such natives become true legends and attain massive fame and accolades in society. Amitabh Bachchan has this Rajyog in his 8th house of Janam Kundli

Kendra-Trikon Rajyog

As the name indicates, this Rajyog is formed when there is an association between the Lords of Kendra and Trikon houses. The 1, 4, 7, 10 are the Kendra houses, and 1, 5, 9 are the Trikon houses. Associations can be in the form of conjunctions (when planets are placed together in a single house) or in the form of aspects (Drishtis). The strength of this Rajyog will be immense if it's formed in the Kendra or Trikon houses itself. The lords of Trikon houses are always considered beneficial and have the potential to enrich the life of the natives. To understand more about these houses, click here.
